Employee Spotlight: Mathieu - Designing Consio
Meet Mathieu Marée, Consio’s Founding Product Designer, combining product thinking, design, and engineering to shape the platform from the ground up.

Meet Mathieu Marée, Consio’s Founding Product Designer, bringing together product thinking, design, and engineering to shape the platform from its earliest days.
Mathieu joined Consio in 2024 as the company’s first product and design hire.
His role sits at the intersection of product management, design, and execution. From understanding customer problems and shaping the roadmap to designing the product and working with engineers to ship it, Mathieu helps turn ideas into experiences customers can actually use.
Before Consio, Mathieu had already spent years moving between software engineering, product design, and early-stage startups, often building products from the ground up.
From engineering to product design
Mathieu’s path into product design started with software engineering. He studied computer engineering at EPITA and began his career building mobile and web applications.
He then worked as a mobile software engineer at Withings, where he developed Android platform components and data visualization libraries before moving into a Product Manager role. There, he worked across Design, Engineering, QA, and Customer Support to help define and ship new mobile experiences.
In parallel, Mathieu was also building products independently. One of those projects was Rippple, an Android client he created using the Dribbble API. After Rippple was acquired by Dribbble, Mathieu joined the company and led its evolution into the official Dribbble Android app, owning the product, design, and development of the experience.
That mix of product, design, and engineering continued throughout the rest of his career. At PhotoRoom, he designed and built the company’s first desktop experience as the product expanded beyond mobile and toward professional sellers and teams.
He later joined Husprey as its first product and design hire, helping build a collaborative data notebooks platform from an early-stage startup through its acquisition by Collibra. After the acquisition, he joined Collibra as a Senior Product Designer, leading design initiatives for its Data Notebooks team.
That background shaped the way Mathieu approaches product design today: not as something limited to screens or Figma files, but as a combination of understanding the problem, defining what to build, working through technical constraints, and making sure the final product actually works for users.
Building the product at Consio
At Consio, Mathieu once again joined as the first dedicated product and design hire.
His work spans the entire product process: talking to customers, identifying problems, helping define priorities, designing new experiences, working closely with engineering during implementation, and iterating once those features are in customers’ hands.
That means switching constantly between very different levels of the product.
One moment might involve thinking through the overall workflow of a new feature; the next might be refining a small interaction inside the platform or working with the team to make sure what ships matches the original product intent.
He also helps shape Consio’s visual identity outside the product itself, including the company website and marketing experiences.
As the platform has expanded from an early product into a broader phone platform for ecommerce, Mathieu’s role has been to make sure that additional capabilities don’t translate into additional complexity for customers.
Designing for conversations, not just screens
One of the more unusual parts of designing Consio is that some of the most important product experiences don’t happen inside an interface at all. They happen during phone conversations between brands and their customers.
That changes the design problem. The team has to think not only about dashboards, settings, and workflows, but also about how AI agents behave, how humans take over, what information is available during a call, and how all of those pieces fit together into one coherent experience.
For Mathieu, that makes Consio an interesting product to build: design becomes as much about systems, behavior, and customer workflows as it is about what appears on screen.
Outside of Consio
Creativity plays a big part in Mathieu’s life beyond work. He plays piano and guitar, enjoys mixing, and spends far too much time digging for music: everything from progressive rock to bossa nova, funk, techno and rap.
Mathieu also loves travelling, he spent a few years travelling around Latin America and Asia. Discovering new cultures and learning languages are a constant source of fresh perspectives and inspiration for him.
More recently, after settling in Lyon, Mathieu has been expressing that creativity through cooking. He especially enjoys making sourdough bread and caring for his own starter. Whether discovering music, exploring a new place, or experimenting in the kitchen, he is happiest when learning and creating.
