Meet Quentin Dufour, who brings deep distributed systems expertise to Consio, helping the product scale on strong, reliable foundations.
Quentin approaches software with a systems mindset. His work is not just about shipping features, but about making sure the platform stays reliable, understandable, and resilient as it grows.
At Consio, his role sits between what is often called Site Reliability Engineering or Platform Engineering. In practice, it means one thing: enabling engineers to ship quickly, while ensuring the product remains available and reliable for customers 24/7.
From distributed systems to real-world reliability
Quentin’s background is rooted in distributed systems and real-world engineering. He studied computer engineering at INSA Rennes before earning a PhD in Informatics from the University of Rennes, working closely with INRIA.
During his research years, he published in recognized systems conferences such as USENIX NSDI and IEEE INFOCOM.
Alongside research, he contributed to open-source projects such as LXC and Jenkins, working on real systems used in production environments.
Before joining Consio, Quentin worked across several hands-on projects:
contributing to cybersecurity efforts with ANSSI
co-creating an open-source object storage system (Garage)
and building a mobile card game
This mix of research, open source, and production work shapes how he approaches engineering today: systems need to be reliable, scalable, and built to operate under real constraints.
Building reliability foundations at Consio
At Consio, Quentin plays a key role in strengthening the foundations that make fast product development possible.
His work spans observability, alerting, database performance, incident response, and internal developer workflows. In practice, that means giving the team better visibility into what is happening inside the system, reducing noise, and making it easier to identify and fix issues before they become real problems.
One of his most visible recent contributions was helping reduce database CPU usage from over 90% to around 10%, a major improvement that directly increased system efficiency and stability.
He also helped introduce more structured operational foundations across the stack, including:
stronger Datadog integration
more systematic alerting policies
early work on service-level objectives
improved business tracing and end-to-end debugging
on-call and incident-response readiness
better cleanup and lifecycle management for old data
Much of this work happens behind the scenes, but it has a direct impact on product quality. It helps Consio move faster without losing control of reliability as the platform scales.
Outside of work
Quentin’s curiosity doesn’t really switch off. He’s known internally for going deep on technical rabbit holes, including regularly sharing (unsolicited) insights about the Linux kernel with Martin (our co-founder and CTO) and the team.
Outside of engineering, he’s a big animal person. His three cats occasionally make appearances during video calls, and he’s been lobbying to get a dog into the office ever since he joined.
He also enjoys nature, exploring new places, and making the most of team moments, especially when they involve celebrations like the Lisbon retreat.
On the more unexpected side, Quentin has a thing for old hardware. He’s restored vintage computers and phones, including a 2006 Mac Pro that he briefly tried to pass off as his future work machine.
He’ll also tell you he’s slightly obsessed with reliability, which, given his role, is probably a good thing.

Quentin sits at the intersection of deep systems expertise, hands-on engineering, and a personality that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
At Consio, that combination matters. It’s what allows the team to move fast while keeping the platform stable and ensures that behind every customer interaction, the system simply works.
